The Vision
To help parents to help their children.
The vision of The Maths Mum® is to help parents to help their children - to help with their maths homework, to talk about maths concepts in a way that they understand and to be able to bring maths topics into a real world setting.
The Maths Mum® wants to make maths fun and not scary to either the parent or the child. A confident, capable and engaging parent will ultimately lead to a confident, capable and engaged child.
To enable us to deliver our vision, we have developed a number of learning platforms:
School Seminars
Tuition Groups
Individual Need
Online Support
Resource Library
We are currently up and running with Early Years and Key Stage 1 Maths Curriculum, Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3&4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5&6). The plan is to bring Key Stage 3 Maths Curriculum live by the end of summer 2019 and then some specialisms thereafter.
The Maths Mum® is a work in progress and will develop in accordance to need and feedback.
The National Numeracy Strategy: The Framework for teaching mathematics from Reception to Year 6 published by the Department for Education & Employment states:
One of the factors that promote high standards of numeracy in a school is:
Parents are kept well informed and encouraged to be involved through discussions at school and sometimes in work with pupils at home.
As parents, it is the most natural thing in the world to read a book with our child and reading forms the focus of our early education. We are happy to read.
Maths is sometimes more of a challenge. It might be lack of confidence - you weren't very good at it as a child. It might be fear - you don't know how things are taught in school these days and don't want to confuse the child. It might be your child - they just don't get the concept and are frustrated.
The Maths Mum® aims to tackle all of the above and work with local schools to raise the standard of numeracy amongst our children setting them up for success in the future.
