Really informative session and gave me confidence to help my daughter with her maths - thank you!

I consider myself strong at maths but this course has given me the knowledge to more effectively help my child by understanding the techniques they recognise. I know I could have researched this myself but The Maths Mum course gave me what I needed in an enjoyable and hassle free session, presented with great enthusiasm. Well worth the investment.

The handouts are very helpful as taking notes could have been tricky with the pace of the course.

The KS1 course was just what i needed. The content and length of the course was just right. I have already recommended it to a West Ashtead mum. I will definitely be signing up for KS2.

After a few weeks I have put so many ideas into practice, I feel a lot more confident helping my children even those out of the age range.
My children have benefited and we now have some fun doing maths.
The information is explained in such a practical way it makes it make sense. Can't wait for the next sessions.

Thank you Karen for a really informative, easy to understand and relaxed session. The way maths is now taught is very different to how I was taught many, many years ago! It is really reassuring to know that I can now help my daughters with their maths in a way they understand (and now I do!) to maximise our learning together.

Wow! You are incredible Karen!! Last night was the most informative evening ever and you are such a natural inspirational speaker! I never thought I would wake up thinking maybe or even get excited about maths.. but I am! It’s encouraged me to ask more about what my son is up to at school and certainly given me the confidence to get more involved!! I loved your enthusiasm and it’s definitely given me a lot to think about and encourage more ‘maths’ in our everyday lives!!
The course was so informative and it was literally like pennies dropping when it all came together and made total sense!!!
I was so impressed with how well you covered both KS1 and KS2 and put all the information together, presenting it in a way that was completely understandable and at a pace that was comfortable.
Thank you also for the maths bible handout! I shall be referring to it with confidence when helping my son from now on!
I highly recommend this course for anyone and everyone who has an interest in helping their children with their learning!

As ever, Karen distilled the maths down to the absolute basics and showed how the children's skills are built from there. By understanding how the children are taught I feel more confident to help with the increasingly tricky homework!

The course was well taught and I found it extremely useful, I feel confident that I can help my daughter with her homework but also that I can work out fun extra curricular maths tasks without having a negative impact on school teaching.

I am not usually scared by Maths but the terms that my son was coming home from school talking about put me in a spin! What was a sharing circle? How was I meant to help him 'partition' and please can someone shed some light on how you are meant to use a number line? The Maths Mum course was just brilliant. Being taught how to understand Maths as our children are being taught it has enabled me to confidently help my boys without fear of teaching them in a way that might contradict how they are learning at school.

Thanks so much - it was an excellent course - I just wish I had done it a year ago at the start of year 1.

Thank you Karen, your course was extremely helpful. I now know how my son is learning in school so have been able to help him more at home. We have made our own number line, are using his clock to learn his 5 x tables and I have shown him how to count in three’s using the lines on his fingers! The best thing of all, it’s been fun for both of us!
The handout at the end is a great reminder and the checklist is invaluable- I have used this to gauge where my son is with his learning and will continue to do so.
Thank you.

Very interesting session providing great insight and in-depth knowledge of how maths is taught in KS1 which will enable me to better understand the terminology used by my sons and to actively help them with their homework knowing that I am doing it the right way. Thank you!

I feel so empowered to tackle maths topics at home with my girls now, and know I’ll be able to speak their language, rather than confuse them with my aged learning methods, thank you!

Thank you for a really informative session, Karen. I feel much better equipped to support my children with KS1 Maths now that I understand the way that It is being taught (terminology, techniques etc). I will definitely be back for your KS2 session in a couple of years time!

As someone who still gets a mild knot in their stomach at the thought of Double Maths, I really didn’t want to pass on my ‘I’m utterly rubbish with numbers’ anxiety to my boys. This session is exactly what I needed to be able to understand what - and how - my children have been/are going to be taught maths; to feel able to support them with their maths homework, just like I can with reading etc,; and to not be afraid of helping them with their maths learning.
I would thoroughly recommend it!

I really enjoyed the session and learnt a great deal about how maths is now taught in school. My son has just started year 2 and is bringing home weekly maths homework. If I’d not been to see The Maths Mum I wouldn’t be as well prepared to support him with this as I am.

The KS1 session has proved to be invaluable in so many different ways. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to think about Maths and the basics involved so I knew I needed to brush up! Not only that but I became aware of how much has changed with regards to teaching methods and terminologies. This session gave me enough information to ensure that I was maths ready!
I was so surprised to realise that my daughter had started learning these methods already and we were able to sit down and chat about how she works out maths problems. It was so great to be able to understand exactly what she was doing and then support her learning. So many concepts were new to me so I loved feeling knowledgeable enough to understand, chat, help and share her maths!

As a qualified accountant and someone who did maths to quite a high level, it was a bit of a shock to be looking at my kids' maths homework and sometimes not being able to understand what on earth it was on about! The Maths Mum was excellent at explaining the different terminology used these days, and how it relates to what we as adults would do in our heads to get the answer. And that the methods taught now are actually just an extension of this, for the better. Karen was a wonderful presenter and the relaxed atmosphere, cup of tea and October mince pies made it a lovely afternoon! Looking forward to KS2 :-)

I am really glad I attended the session. I found it very informative and will be interested to attend the next level up once it has been developed and my daughter joins year 3.

It was a great course, although at times I felt I was trying desperately to write everything down that I missed some points. I am aware that you may be concerned about copyright but it would have been helpful to have had printouts of the slides to write notes next to. Besides that it is really a great course in a lovely environment very professionally presented.

I haven’t provided handouts as I’ve tried to keep printing costs and environmental impact down. I am going to trial some different formats in the coming sessions and hopefully decide on one that provides the framework for jotting down notes but won’t need too many trees chopped down!
