Money is an interesting subject. The understanding of money is a life skill in modern life however we actually handle money less and less these days. Today most transactions are electronic or online... beep! This leaves us the challenge of teaching the subject so as our children understand the concept of money and its value whilst realising that physical money has little practical use in today’s society.
Competency with money is important for many aspects of independent living – shopping, socialising, travelling and, most importantly, for avoiding exploitation by knowing how much things cost, how much change is expected, how much a bill should be and knowing that wages are correct. Adults who are innumerate have to trust the honesty of those they encounter in all situations where money transactions are involved.
